Hunger Ministry

The WRBA hunger ministry exists to support churches in caring for the needs of people who are hungry by providing education, resources, and opportunities for collaboration.

Impact

Since its inception, the Hunger Ministry at the WRBA has made a unique mark in the community by not only supporting local church-based hunger ministries, but by connecting churches to one another, and with other organizations, in order to have a greater impact on hunger within the community. WRBA church hunger ministries include:

  • Community Gardens
  • Food Pantries
  • Summer Meals for Children
  • School Backpack Programs
  • Advocacy and Letter-Writing Campaigns
  • Community Meals
  • And more!

What we do

We help churches build on their capacity, encourage regular planning and evaluation, and provide resources, training and opportunities for collaboration. We hope to support churches in creating and sustaining healthy hunger alleviation ministries that provide relief for today and hope for tomorrow.

How to be involved

Together with Christ we have the opportunity to be a part of restoring and reconciling creation to God. We hope by being generous stewards of our resources, literally our food, we can aid our community.

2018 Hunger & Poverty Summit at Baylor University

"It was a wonderful opportunity to meet other people who run food pantries and hear what things they are doing that we can add to our ministry. I particularly enjoyed the two breakout sessions about summer feeding programs. This is something I have been thinking about implementing now for a couple of years and the information provided was very helpful in how to go about starting a summer feeding program in our area. I also enjoyed another breakout that talked about the reasons people are in poverty and what we as a church can and should do."
