I. EMPLOYMENT PROCEDURE
Recruited by a Children’s Director Search Committee.
II. PRINCIPAL FUNCTION
The Children’s Director will work under the general supervision of the Pastor. He/She is to be in
charge of all activities having to do with children, ages 3 through 6th grade, with the exception of
Sunday School which is under the direction of the Sunday School Director. He/She and the Sunday
School Director will be sharing ideas and working together to resolve situations having to do with
scheduling of activities, sharing facilities, etc. He/She is to work with the church staff, Children’s
Committee, activity leaders, and parents to develop and carry out a well-rounded schedule of
activities to meet the needs of the children.
III. JOB REQUIREMENT SKILLS
The Children’s Director must be a professed and practicing Christian involved in the Southern Baptist
faith. He/She is to display a heart for children at all times and have a desire to lead children to grow
in Christ. He/She is able to be patient, understanding, empathetic, and loving while maintaining
reasonable and appropriate limits of conduct and engaging discipline appropriately. He/She is to
exhibit skills in organization and cooperation in order to work with and support the Pastor, church
staff, leaders, and members. He/She is to work with children and parents/guardians to develop
Christ-centered relationships. He/She is to have knowledge and basic skills in using technology
(creating advertisements, posting to social media, communicating with parents/guardians).
IV. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Become familiar with and adhere to church policies, especially those having to do with children’s
ministry and activities.
2. Plan, coordinate, and conduct children’s activities – these would include:
WEEKLY ACTIVITIES—
A. Children’s Message during Sunday Morning Worship Service (prepare and present) and/or
Children’s Church: conduct and coordinate lessons/activities and order supplies as needed
B. Sunday evening lesson/activity (6:00pm): coordinate a planned activity until parents are
finished with their church lesson/activity
C. Wednesday night lesson/activity: coordinate a planned activity until parents are
finished with their church lesson/activity
YEARLY ACTIVITIES–
A. Summer church camp: organize and attend camp, conduct fundraisers for camp fees,
recruit kids and parent sponsors
B. Vacation Bible School: act as VBS director, work with church staff and Children’s
Committee to pick out curriculum and programs; order materials, recruit volunteers for
teaching, kitchen duty, recreation, craft/STEM activities, and other helpers, etc; arrange
VBS help trainings
C. Fall Festival: work with church staff and Children’s Committee to coordinate booths,
prizes, games, and schedule of events; recruit volunteers to run booths, kitchen duty,
registration, etc.
D. Christmas Program/Play: act as director, work with church staff and Children’s
Committee to design/script program; order materials, recruit volunteers, coordinate
with church calendar
E. Other needed fellowship activities/programs: coordinate children’s activities with church
calendar, church staff, and Children’s Committee
3. In coordination with the Children’s Committee and activity leaders, develop feasible fund
estimates to be included in the annual church budget
4. Assist with baby dedication (working with church staff and nursery workers)
5. Serve on Children’s Committee as non-voting consultant
6. Attend scheduled staff meetings
7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor (or Staff Administrator in absence of Pastor)
V. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1. Salary budget will be reviewed annually.
2. This part-time employee is not entitled to paid vacation or paid sick leave.
3. *Will be paid for actual hours worked not to exceed 1,040 hours per year. Hours of employment
will be dictated by time-phased schedule of activities which best meets the needs of the children.
4. Must permanently reside in the vicinity of the church community or be able to attend all church
activities involving children.
5. If any parent/guardian and/or church member has a problem arise, please refer to the Personnel
Policy, Section IV – Resolution of Differences as stated on Page II-3 of the Church Policy.
6. *This employee will be paid for 40 hours for the week of Vacation Bible School and 40 hours for
the week of Children’s Camp.
